Hi, my name is Neil Turner, the owner and operator of Triac Light and Sound. As a privately owned company, we pride ourselves in offering better customer service.

Established in Tauranga with my father John in 1983, Triac Light and Sound has over the years developed a colourful history. By constantly adapting our services and products to the times, we have been able to give the Bay of Plenty the resources they need to create the liveliest parties, most organised conferences and best times without fail for 27 years.

Triac Light and Sound's history...
Turner Electrical Services and Catering Hire was established in 1983 by John & Neil Turner at 1026 Cameron Rd, Gate Pa. John, a qualified electrician and Neil, a qualified electronics technician. The company was set up to fill a gap in the party hire market.
As well as offering electronic and electrical servicing, the company hired out catering, lighting and sound equipment, later manufacturing and supplying party ice (Alpine Party Ice) and hiring marquees. Eventually the addition of a third partner saw the name changed to Triac Light & Sound Ltd.
As the company grew it was relocated to the CBD end of Cameron Rd. The marquee hire was dropped and the ice manufacturing increased. John and Neil pioneered the lighting of log ships so they could be loaded 24 hours a day. When John finally retired, Alpine Party Ice was sold and the business moved to Marsh Street where it went through a number of changes.
Triac was instrumental in designing an electrical distribution system for shipping 'fantainers'. Extra staff were employed in Auckland and Tauranga to manufacture new and modify existing equipment. Triac then for the next few years installed these systems on ships carrying onions out of Auckland and Tauranga. This system is now used as a standard by most produce exporters in New Zealand.
Now solely owned by Neil Turner the company established a music shop to fill a huge gap in the music instrument retail market. During its time in the industry, Triac sponsored many musicians and musical events. Triac later acquired Mayers Music Centre, and relocated it to Marsh Street adjacent to Triac’s Rock n Roll shop and set it up as an acoustic retail shop. Triac put on a number of workshops for local musicians that featured local and international artists.
All this time Triac was expanding its hire inventory while also designing and installing sound and lighting systems for such clients as churches, schools and clubs. During this time the music shops were sold.
Another opportunity came along in the form of electric scooters. E-Ride was born and for the next three years, E-Ride, part of Triac, sold a huge number of electric and petrol scooters and bicycles. The electric scooter market declined after three years so E-Ride was dropped but Triac continues to service electric scooters.
Due to the sale of our building and a massive increase in rent, Triac was relocated to its present position in the very peaceful Oak Lane in Judea, where we have plenty of parking.
Triac continues to specialise in audio, lighting and AV design, sales, service and installation. Our clients, many of whom have been with us throughout our 30 year history, include schools, churches, clubs, bars, restaurants, courts, board rooms, retirement homes, DJ’s, musicians and theatres.
